Over the last several years you might have heard about body positivity. While I felt like it was a good thing I never really understood what it was. So, I decided to look it up. It has been a social movement focused on changing the current beauty standards society has set in place. It's accepting of all body shapes, skin tones, genders, and physical abilities.
While it is trying to change the beauty standards it is also trying to get individuals to accept and love themselves. To not shame yourself for the way you look. As it is said beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. So, why shouldn't we has heavier people accept our bigger bodies? The answer is because society shames us for being over weight, for looking different.
While there are downsides to being bigger it doesn't necessarily mean we aren't healthy. Personally as someone who has struggled with my weight my whole life I do have a healthy mindset. I try to make sure I eat right, be active, and not over do it on sweets and soda. Sometimes being overweight is in the genes. No matter what you do the pounds won't shed. Does that mean I'm not healthy? No, it just means to be diligent in that healthy mindset. Until then you need to accept and love yourself and screw the social construct that you aren't beautiful. Which sounds easier said than done I know. It is a daily and sometimes constant thing to remind yourself that "you're beautiful no matter what they say" cause after all "words can bring us down" even our own.
