Weekly Wellness Journey: Better Sleep, Healthy Habits, and Inner Shadow Healing

Hello and welcome to another weekly health update on my goals, self-care journey, and overall progress. This past week has been draining—at least energetically—but emotionally, it’s been fairly steady. I’m still focused on improving my sleep quality. July marked my return to wearing my Pixel Watch to track rest, and this month my Fitbit sleep profile changed from the Dolphin to the Hedgehog—a shift I didn’t expect. The change tells me that something is working, even though there’s still room for improvement. To support deeper, more restorative sleep, I’ve been taking magnesium glycinate and ashwagandha supplements. I’ve also made it a habit to limit social media use after 6 p.m. to reduce emotional stimulation before bed. I’m human, so I do still check occasionally out of boredom, but the goal is to wind down instead of staying emotionally charged. Since I’m not yet at a higher dosage of supplements, the improvements are subtle, but titrating up is in progress. Oral health is also moving in the right direction. This week I only missed one day of brushing and flossing compared to two the week before. I missed it simply due to low energy—but skipping occasionally isn’t failure, and it doesn’t mean I’ve fallen into a bad pattern. I remind myself that perfection isn’t the goal—consistency is. My soda reduction plan is holding strong. The week before, I had two soda days; last week, I had three, but I still stayed within my personal limit of no more than three soda days per week and 48 oz maximum per soda day. Initially, I was frustrated with myself, but then I realized I was still meeting my goal. A balanced lifestyle includes occasional indulgences without guilt. Looking ahead, I’m hoping for a week with better energy levels while still hitting my self-care goals. Until I see my doctor for a follow-up sleep study (referral already sent), I’ve decided to make Sundays my restorative sleep day—allowing myself to sleep until I naturally wake up. I previously tried sleeping just one hour later than usual, but it didn’t make a big difference—so now I’m letting my body decide. Last week’s tarot reading from a group I’m part of revealed that my next step in healing is shadow work. I’m addressing my physical health, but deep healing also means confronting my shadow self—the parts of me I’ve suppressed or avoided. Acknowledging these truths is essential for emotional growth and releasing the trauma that has shaped me. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
